a little note

This year has been a really off year for me in the way of health & fitness. I haven't been posting much because I really don't want to jump on here and post about all the negative thoughts and feelings I am experiencing with my constant setbacks. I've been riddled with minor injuries and irritating old ones. It's frustrating, but I know this is only temporary and everyone goes through it. So bare with me, I will be back on a more consistent basis soon. This week we are working on a few 1RM, so I am sure I will post more about my outcome.

Hope you are all well!! Keep grinding!

one on one: day seven

If you read my previous posting than you know the heartache I am going through. I know that I am someone who can easily fall into a dark place and close everyone off. As hard as it is to simply get up and move I forced myself to do so. So today I went and had my one on one session with Joon to help work out some anger and frustration. It most certainly helped to let some pent up emotion out in a way that will benefit me in the long run and makes me feel better. Today we did the following:

Warm-Up: 500m Row
Extended Warm-Up:
     4 x 50m Skip
     4 x 50m Athletic Burpee Sprint
     4 x 10 DB Clean (speed)

Rest 5 minutes

CrossFit Football Total - 1RM
Power Clean
Back Squat
Bench Press
Deadlift
My total = 580

So my old Power Clean 1 rep max was 105# that I achieved back in March, today I got 110#. I did try for 115# but mentally I was being challenged. My old Back Squat 1 rep max was 140# that I achieved last September, today I got 175#. I went for 185# but once I got to the bottom of the squat I wasn't coming back up. It's still a 30# PR! My old Bench Press was 85# that I achieved in February, today I got 100#. And the funny story on this one was my kicking out my leg from the floor to help me push that 100# up. Joon doesn't know how I did that with a flailing leg but I did. And lastly, my old Deadlift 1 rep max is 225# that I achieved last January. Today I was only able to muster 195#. It wasn't without trying but by then I was taxed out.

I am happy with my achievements today and look forward to doing this one again to see where I end up!

sanity still intact

Yup, I'm still sane! I haven't gone for a run in 4 weeks and as frustrating as it is for me, I'm oddly calm. In all honesty there is an important factor to why I'm surviving this, and I really should thank him. I'm going through a learning process of channeling the mental energy I'd use for running, into other aspects of my life. Not as easy as you'd think. Remembering to eat better and cutting back on indulgences is hard to do, I can't run that extra mile to burn off that extra caloric intake. Blah. Running has also become my therapist of sorts, it's my session to work on things that may be weighing on me mentally. I was hit with something a week ago that a good run could have helped me a great deal, but thankfully I have good friends that were a healthy substitute for running. It may not have been exactly the same thing, but I'm still fortunate enough to have that, and I know it. So to my lovely friends, Jen, Krystle, Amanda and Natalie- Thank you for giving me your time when I needed it (even when you didn't realize how helpful you were). And to Ken, while I'm struggling with the inability to run, you have helped keep my spirits up by making me happy. I can't thank you enough for that. You're a wonderful person, and I am utterly thankful to have you in my life. :)

August is a week away, and the Crawfish Crawl is 3 weeks away. Given that I haven't gone on a run in 4 weeks, and it will be at least another week or two before I can even go for a moderately paced walk, I don't think I will be participating in this event. The next event on my schedule is in September, and I am hoping that I will be able to do that but if I were to be completely honest with myself, I don't think that is going to happen either. Ah! So what is a girl to do?! I think my main focus at this point is to get back into core training and upper body weight training this week, next week at the latest. And to keep with the therapy with my ankle so that it is back in working (running) condition.

I think the most important thing I need to remember is to live, love, laugh...
